These releases help open the superficial front fascial line (SFL) which shortens and tightens with rounding shoulders forward, sitting , or over use of forward rounding postures due to our jobs and daily life ( sitting at a desk, working over a counter or client on massage table, driving a car, etc)
It also alleviates the superficial back fascial line (SBL) from being over stretched and weakened from prolonged forward postures that have become habit.

This exercise helps release tension in the latissimus dorsi which plays a major role in shoulder mobility and upper body strength. It also plays a big role in functional movements for everyday life like lifting , carrying , rotating and so much more. These muscles need to be strong and supportive to bring our shoulders into proper alignment. In many people these muscles are weak and elongated ( from forward postures)
This area also has a deep connection to our fight and flight response. When we are on alert , these muscles tighten. When we soften into these with the roller , we signal safety to the nervous system and allow for down regulation.
